GLOBAL WARMING

The Butler Family Fund has also supported efforts help fight GLOBAL WARMING. At this time, grants in this area are made on an occasional basis at the discretion of the Board.

FRIENDS OF THE EARTH
Butler supported efforts by Friends of the Earth (FOE) to help build a grassroots movement capable of achieving federal climate policy that achieves the most rapid feasible reductions in U.S. green house emissions. After the failure of Congress to enact climate legislation in 2009, FOE formed the Climate Reality Check coalition with other leading environmental groups and organizations interested in pursuing a progressive climate agenda. Butler's grant supported FOE's work within the coalition and enabled FOE to build its own internal capacity for grassroots organizing, campaigning and movement-building.

350.org
350.org is a relatively young organization based on the premise that solving global warming will take a global movement. Its great strength is using social media and creative campaigns to mobilize general public opinion around bold climate solutions. Our grant bolstered their efforts to strengthen the grassroots climate movement, to lead global campaigns creating momentum for ambitious climate solutions, and to foster innovative communications increasing public support for climate action. 350.org's efforts helped lead to the 2012 denial of permits for the Keystone XL pipeline.
